What does the word angel mean in the Bible?

In the Bible Study Tools, it is more precise and quite a comprehensive article.
Angels are mentioned almost 300 times in the Bible. They are superhuman or a heavenly being who serve as God’s messengers and act decisively in fulfilling God’s will in the world.

Right from the beginning of time to today, their general purpose is to declare and promote God’s will and are actively involved in human affairs. Angel are invisibly present in the assemblies of Christians and are appointed by God to minister to believers.

God’s messengers

angels are God's messenger

As mentioned earlier, they are God’s messengers, an example of that is when Daniel prayed to God, his answer came via an angel, In Daniel 10, it says how an angel appeared to Daniel and in verse 12, it says, Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.”

Angels protect us

angels protect us

There are many accounts of angels watching over us and protecting the lives of humans. Angel have been cited all throughout the Bible for their amazing ability to protect those in harm.

The Bible says in Psalm 91:11 For He will order His angel to protect you wherever you go. I know of one specific incident in my life where supernatural intervention saved my life from a car accident.

Psalm 34:7 says, For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear Him.
Exodus 23:20 says, “See, I am sending an angel before you to protect you on your journey and lead you safely to the place I have prepared for you.”

Guardian angels watch over us

angels watch us over

Each of us has our own private guardian angel. Dr. Billy Graham observed the plural “angels” in Psalm 91:11 and concluded that each Christian believer must have at least two angels whose assigned duty is to protect them.

On my 54th Birthday I was in quiet prayer and meditation with God and I had an open vision of when I was born, and I saw five angels excitedly standing beside me with a crown and a small treasure chest. As I dialogued with God, I got the impression that He had assigned them to me when time began and finally the person they had been assigned to had been born. We are not to worship angel, but it has been of great comfort to know that God has assigned angel to watch over me.

In the Growing Deep and Strong® series, I dedicated a complete and extensive session called “the existence of angel”.
